Women's Greenhouse in Zhang Xian, Gansu Province:
|
Approximately 15% of the land of Zhang Xian County is under-cultivation, primarily due to two factors: a short growing season (155 frost-free days annually) and limited arable land. The construction of 7,000 s.f. state-of-art greenhouse, the first owned and operated by the women of Zhang Xian, enables them to plant mushrooms, medicinal herbs and other fruits and vegetables that fetch high prices at the market place. The project was completed in 2002.

Spring Bud Scholarship Program, Shaanxi Province:
|
A major commitment of the Dragon Fund, the Phase I program launched in 2001 is to finance the entry into 4th grade of 1,000 girls from Ankang and Shanluo Districts. Students came from families with a medium annual household income equivalent to U.S. $60. In June 2004, the girls can look forward to graduating from primary schools.
Phase II program is to raise enough funds to finance the same 1,000 students to complete the three-year middle school education (7th through 9th grade). The top 20% will follow a special track bound for senior high school and university training. It is hoped that many of them will eventually take on leadership roles in fields of education and public service in their communities.
